Chapman is a Total Joke and Cannot Be Taken Seriously

From Chris on 10/3/05:

Dear Sir,

I am aware of the T.V. show "Dog The Bounty Hunter" and have watched it a few times. The first thing that came to my mind when I read your E-mail was a chuckle. This guy is a total joke and cannot be taken seriously by any level headed person watching. I think his son that helps him has more of a chance of being taken as a professional than he does.

I really have no idea how he got the network to air this stuff but there has to be more choices out there than him. I mean really, if this guy came to my door to take me in I think would fall over from laughing, come on, what professional in any field do you know wears the get up this guy sports?

Black arm tassels? Come on!

OK, I guess I can stop before I get all worked up, you can probably tell I'm not his #1 fan.

Thanks, Chris

P.S. How bout the tough guy approach followed by the minister? hahaha

Being a Cop Was Completely Out of the Question

From Christopher on 10/3/05:

Yes i know who ''Dog'' is. So far for all i know and from watching the show that he is one of the best bounty hunters i have heard of or seen. I visited his website and read his profile and i beleive he has made a very tremendous turnaround in his life. If i was him i dont think i would have been able to even attempt to engage in a career like this after being charged with murder. It was his tv show that actually inspired me to become a bounty hunter. I have always wanted to do something in law enforcement but, after the childhood that i lived and the things that i went through as a teenager, i changed my mind until i saw his show for the first time. I ruled out that being a cop was completely out of the question, and state troopers sit in their car most of the day and write tickets. im more of an outdoorsman. I like to be outside and definetely dont like being in one place all the time. So after watching his show, i talked to a couple of my friends and family members and they all think that its a great move in my life, and a couple of my friends are going to do the same. So any information you can give me or training schools you would highly recommend would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your interest in my oppinion and i look forward to hearing from you again.

You Can't Fix People

From Patrick on 10/2/05:

I watch the show, he's into trying to fix people, you cant fix people, they have to fix themselves, he seems like a good family man,but the show is a bit unrealistic at least in the area i work my cases, thanks for asking, god bless-patrick

Lacking in Good Taste

From Jayson on 10/2/05:

I like him, though his image is somewhat lacking in good taste. I'm a retired USAF, I think you know where I am coming from. He did not influence me into becoming a Bounty Hunter. I have always been interested in the field. It is one of the oldest professions stemming form the western days. I watch his show on a weekly basis. There is a problem in the state of Florida....it does not allow Bounty Hunters, Bail Enforcement Officer. That is to say you are not allowed to freelance unless you are the Bail Bond Agent of the bond. Also, you can be charged with Stalking in the state of FL unless you have a Privet Eye license. I am unable to obtain it because the state will not recognize I was working for a privet eye security agency from another state over 20 years ago. I am still trying to find some loop holds in the system. I may start my own security company, then obtain a privet detective linces through it. I will be the only person employed. I took a course a long time ago be for the advent of computers. If I become a Bail Bond Agent, I am only allowed to track my bonds, not others. There is no money in this. I'm not interested in bailing people out of jail, just returning them. I think the loop hole is to be employed by the Bail Bond Agency, all of them but not at the same time.

From Charles on 10/2/05:

Chapman Not Looking Professional

From Jenness on 10/1/05:

Yes, I know who Chapman is. I don't believe I've seen his show, so I can't really give an opinion, except that he doesn't seem to take your advice about looking professional

But He Did Kille Someone, Uses Profanity and Has Quite a Few Kids With Quite a Few Women

From Cher on 10/1/05:

yes, i watch "dog" on the AandE channel and was first aware of him during a highly publicized Chapman mexican jail incident. i love his look and his beleif in the lord, but he did kill someone, uses strong profanity towards his captives during his adrenaline rushes and has quite a few kids with quite a few women. he does inspire me to utilize my talents as a past criminal mind, to aid the law and the lord by getting the "bad guy" off the streets.i am confident that after i get started in the profession, my self and my team might give ol' "dog" a "run for his money". overall, "dog" duane chapman, is a definite asset to law enforcement and drug awareness. he does have the benefit of knowing how a "wanted man" thinks and he has a good, solid outlook on doing what's right. i just hope he doesn't become so famous that he can't sneak up on his fugitives anymore or get so big headed that he slips up and gives the tabloids something to talk about. thanks for hearing my opinion, from a partner of the future bounty hunting team, "the senorita sisters" of madill, oklahoma( meth gateway to the world) and looking forward to more insight into this feild, sincerely cher

People Think That Bounty Hunters are Rent-A-Cops

From Bruce on 9/30/05:

Let me just say a few things about the (dog). Well to begin with I do like the show, I watch it all the time. The show in its self does not leave an impression on me, but what made me more interested in bounty hunting after seeing that show is the fact that he was incarcerated before he started hunting. That in its self tells me that we live in the greatest country in the world where a person that was on the wrong track can change and be given a new start.

Thats what its all about. Now when it comes to knowing what to look for in the criminal world, I don't think there is anyone better to know what to look for then someone who has been there before. I am however a little confused at why he chose to do the t.v. thing that soon. Not that I am against it because I am not. But, I do think that it should not have been so soon. Most people think that bounty hunters are rent a cops anyway.

My first attempt with becoming a bounty hunter was with (Seekers) in New Brunswick, New Jersey retired police Sgt. John Filozof who wanted me to work with him and I would have done so if I had not had a connection with his daughter who helped me when I got in trouble in my youthful years, and we became best friends and still are to this day. My point is this with someone like the (dog) being an ex-con you can't hide from him, because he knows what criminal think, and where they will hide and when they will come out of the hole they are in, which makes him good(great) and I like him.

I know I talked alittle to much but I don't get the chance to speak about this to much with people. I have a four man crew that wants to work, but in this game its about trusting your partner. Well I hope you will continue to send as much info as you wish, and I am going to take your couse, just doing alittle more research.

Beth Chapman at Da Kine Bail Bonds

From Wes on 9/30/05:

1. Yes. I know who he is. Works with his girlfriend Beth at Da Kine Bail Bonds in Hawaii. Also has/had an office in Colorado.

2. I have a little, still do once in awhile but not regularly.

3. Seems like a pretty nice guy and good at Bail Recovery and seems to care even about the people that he catches but at the sametime maybe a little caught up in the hype of being on TV because he seems to have this "larger than life" air about him and an "I'm always right"opinion of things.

4.Dog hasn't really effected my opinion of the Bail Enforcement Industry. My uncle and a couple of friends of mine either have been of are in the industry so my opinion of it has been set for a long time now and is based on more than one man.

Skip Tracing and Bounty Hunting

From Valerie on 9/30/05

The less hype skip tracing and bounty hunting get the better. Our jobs are dangerous enough as it is. It's another reality show, not for the public's information but for entertainment for a bottom line viewership and the sale of commerical time.

I've not watched the show, but seen advertisments, and I am not interested in watching the show.

Duane Chapman is Not a Saint

From "CrimpChu" on 9/30/05:

Dog may be a good tv personality or even role model, I feel that tv has gone to his head and he has forgotten the real reason the judge offered him the position he currently holds. Dog wasn't and can never say he is or has ever been a self made fugitive recovery agent, he had no other choice in the matter. I would have chosen his route too.

As far as his skills go as a fugitive recovery agent on tv that looks nice, what about in reality. He's not a saint and I know they only put on tv what they want you to see, not what actually happens. Dog has become a household name like mr. clean or the scrubbing bubbles, yes everyone knows what they do, yet no one ever buys them.

Dog needs to get back to the real world.

As a person, I've never met him, would like to, for obvious reasons. I think he's a nice guy and as you well know nice guys finish last.

The Big Bad Dog

From "Skaht" on 9/29/05:

1. Do you know who Duane "Dog" Chapman is?
Yes I know Who The Big Bad Dog Is.

2. Have you watched his television show?
Yes I have on A&E

3. What do you think of him? Why?
He is tough and a good bail enforcement agent. He knows all of the tricks to the job and catches alot of his fugitives.

4. How has it affected your opinion of the industry and a career in bail enforcement?
I must say that he is the person who sparked my interest in this field of work.

Duane Chapman on Montel

From Lorrie on 9/28/05:

I have never seen the show with Duane Dog Chapman. I never had a interest in him. That being said, I did see him on Montel today. I was a little suprised. Before I thought he wa just a freak. On Montel he seemed to care. T.V. gets the wild ones. Whatever sells. I hope most people realize that. He hasn't changed my opinion at all. IN fact it gives me a little hope. If an excon can do it maybe I can to, a women

Dog Chapman Parading Around Town Dressed Like Rambo

From Alan S. (a private investigator in Foley, AL) on 9/28/05:

I appreciate your email and am excited to be able to give you my opinion of the show.

1. Yes, I know who Duane "Dog" Chapman is.

2. Yes, I have watched his show a few times.

3. First and foremost, I am a firm believer that it is best to avoid attention from the media at all costs. This includes interviews and TV shows. Second, I do not believe in parading around town dressed like "RAMBO". This draws unnecessary attention to you and that is not a good thing. I feel discretion is the better part of valor.

4. Although I do not agree with the way the show is made, the work of the "Bounty Hunter" still remains an important part of todays' legal process.

Thanks for the opportunity to participate in this discussion.

My Dream to Go Into Bail Enforcement

From Steven on 9/28/05:

i would have to say im 29yrs old and its been my dream to go into bail enforcement for a long time.....but ever since i saw mr. chapmans t.v. show.....it made me think this man is doing the good of all people and i was very stunned when i found out 1. he had a record 2.he never carried a gun..and 3. how he got so big to make it into t.v. i would have to say i guess it changed me a lil but in the long run i wanted to make sure people who did wrong need to do there time + there are not many people who want to hunt others down....but i would like to say that i have looked all over for information on being a bail enforcer and now that i came across your courses...i hope it helps me in the future! p.s. thank you for staying in touch.

Duane Chapman is a Fair Person as Far as Fugitives Go

Form Vonny on 9/28/05:

I THINK ITS A PRETTY GOOD SHOW. ALTHOUGH A LITTLE DRAMATIC SOMETIMES.BUT I THINK HES A FAIR PERSON, AS AFR AS FUGITIVES GO. HIS WIFE IS A LITTLE OVER-BOARD SOMETIMES, BUT ALL AROUND, ITS A FAIRLY GOOD SHOW. I DONT THINK IT AFFECTS MY OPPINION ABOUT BOUNTY HUNTERS AT ALL. EVERYBODY HAS THEIR OWN OPINION ON HOW A CRIMINAL SHOULD BE HANDLED. ITS DIFFERENT FOR ALL.WHAT I SAW IN REAL LIFE IS NOT ALL THAT DIFFERENT FROM THEIR SHOW. BUT IT IS A BIT.

YOURS,
VONNY.........

Will He Meet That One Fugitive With a Gun?

From Ray (the bond guy) on 9/27/05:

1. Do you know who Duane "Dog" Chapman is?
YES

2. Have you watched his television show?
YES

3. What do you think of him? I TRY NOT TO Why?
I WATCH FOR THE PURPOSE OF ENTERTAINMENT. WHAT BOTHERS ME ABOUT THE SHOW IS THAT I CAN SEE THAT HE IS A LOVING FATHER AND A FAMILY MAN AND I WONDER IF SOMEDAY HE WILL MEET THAT ONE DEFENDANT THAT HAS A GUN. YOU KNOW AND I KNOW WHAT SOME OF THESE PEOPLE OUT THERE ARE REALLY CAPABLE OF. I HAVE NEVER HAD TO FIRE MY WEAPON AT ANYBODY, THANK GOD! BUT THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL SITUATIONS WHERE I BELIEVE THAT HAVING IT MADE THE DIFFERENCE.

4. How has it affected your opinion of the industry and a career in bail enforcement? IT HAS NOT INFLUENCED MY OPINION AT ALL. I HAVE BEEN A BOND AGENT SINCE 1998 AND HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THE DOG UNTIL HE GOT JAILED IN MEXICO GOING AFTER THE MAX FACTOR HEIR / RAPIST. MY MIND FOCUSES ON NEW LAWS AND WAYS OF APPREHENDING THESE FUGITIVES THAT COULD CARE LESS ABOUT US, ALL THEY WORRY ABOUT IS THEIR NEXT FIX. IT DOES NOT AFFECT MY CAREER AT ALL. I HAVE FIVE KIDS THAT ARE GROWING UP AND I AM TIRED OF WORKING IN AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THE FINANCES AND BUSINESS DECISIONS SO I STARTED MY OWN BUSINESS.

I Don't Have Cable TV

From Rikki on 9/27/05:

I would love to answer your questions except for I don't have cable. Funny huh. Actually what kinda got me interested was those Stephani Plum novels "One for the Money", "Two for the Dough", and so on, written by Janet Evanovich. Those are awsome! Also my husband has the cartoon series of Cowboy Bebop and another that i can't think of. Also I was trying to be a copy cat of my brother. I just wanted to learn more about it. I am sorry but maybe someday I could become a bond enforcer but I really can't anytime soon also because I just had a baby. So sorry for any inconvenience. Thank you for your time.

He Really Believes in What He Does

From Terry G. on 9/27/05:

To answer your questions about Duane "Dog" Chapman. Yes, I know who Duane is. I like to watch his show when ever I get the chance. I think that for the most part he really believes in what he does. By help people getting a second chance. When I watch the show I see him getting his self and everyone else ready to go and get the person safely and quickly. He might go and take someone down quickly, but afterwards he talks to them and sees what he can do to help them out. I have not really look at this industry before I seen his show. I'm in school right now for Criminal Justice and was looking at the different fields that I can go into with my degree. I still have not seen any thing to do with being a Bail Enforcement Agent, just every thing from security officer to FBI. Duane's show has shown me another field in the justice system that I could go into.

It Doesn't Seem Real

From T. Zach on 9/27/05:

I hope these respones can help you in the way that you want.

1. Do you know who Duane "Dog" Chapman is?
Yes

2. Have you watched his television show?
Yes

3. What do you think of him? Why?
I find the show entertaining, and I like some of his ways. But at the same time it doesn't seem real. I watched an episode last week where they were talking about being your brother's keeper, I don't really see most people acting towards their targets they way he does. I am not sure if he is acting as though he cares because he is on tv, or if he really is genuine.

4. How has it affected your opinion of the industry and a career in bail enforcement?
It has actually make me take another look at the industry and the way I will handle certain targets.

I also see the show as attracting people into this industry who find the show exciting, but will over do it and end up hurting some one or getting themselves hurt.

Not Everyone Gives Up Without a Fight

From Steven W. on 9/27/05:

Well I have seen duane chapman and his show dog the bounty hunter. I think it is cool but I dont think its always that easy to apprehend someone who skipped out on paying back the system. because not every fugitive is going to give them selves up without a fight... cause nobody wants to end up back in jail if they just got out.

Behind the Scenes Work

From Jason on 9/27/05:

Before we even get to him, I wanted to tell you that your website has and will be tremendously helpful, thank you. Hopefully I'll be able to take one of your classes within the next week.

1. Yes
2. I watch his show somewhat irregularly.
3. It's hard not to like him. I think he really is sincere in his method of approaching his career and he seems to be very good at it. I know that his show is edited, so I do view it with some skepticsm.
4. It has made believe that a career is possible, by showing some of the behind the scenes work and the actual apprehensions.

He is One of My Favorite People

From Marta on 9/27/05:

1. Do you know who Duane "Dog" Chapman is? YES

2. Have you watched his television show? YES

3. What do you think of him? Why? I THINK HE IS AN AWESOME PERSON AND DOES ALOT OF GOOD. HE VALUES THE PERSON AS AN INDIVIDUAL AND WILL HELP YOU TO DO THE RIGHT THING AS WELL AS WORKS WITH YOU. HE IS AN INDIVIDUAL THAT OFFERS COMPASSION, UNDERSTANDING, EMPATHY AMONG OTHER THINGS WHILE DOING HIS JOB. HE IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE PEOPLE

4. How has it affected your opinion of the industry and a career in bail enforcement? HE HAS INSPIRED ME TO BECOME THE BEST PERSON I CAN IN LIFE AS WELL AS GET INTO A CAREER OF BOUNTY HUNTING. I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT THIS CAREER UNTIL I SAW HIM AND HOW HE IMPACTED THE COMMUNITY HE LIVES AND WORKS IN.

HOPE THIS HELPS YOU.

Brings More Respect to Bounty Hunters

From Ben:

To answer your questions, yes I know who Duane "Dog" Chapman is and yes I have watched his TV show. I think he is a great bounty hunter because he brings more respect to the industry. Yes i understand that it isnt always the way you see on TV and there is alot more to bail enforcement than what they actually show to the public on his show but i do respect that he is good at what he does. I have learned through his show and readings on the internet off of your website and others that it takes time to learn the trade but I am willing and want to learn the what it takes to do bail enforcement. After reading your free introduction to bail recovery i still want to pursue a career as a bail enforcement agent and plan on doing what it takes to get there. I plan on taking your course and look forward to learning everything you have to offer in the career of bail enforcement.

thanks,
Ben

Obviously Too Wrapped Up in Being Famous

From Ramsey on 9/26/05:

Well here is my opinion on this situation then tell me for one why does he need to showcase his "talents" on television? I think it is a unfortunate situation sometimes it may seem as if crimanals have more rights than everyone else as for myself i want this because the town i live in has entirely to many people running around and not respecting their bail conditions. as for your questions yes i know him and have seen his show what do i think of him well he is probably good at what he does but is obvisouly to wrapped up in being famous. As for affecting my opinion no it hasnt all i want is to help clean up a town i was born and raised in. anyway i completely agree with people who say if u run u should be caught wherever u r it is crap that someone can commit a crime and run to another country and not get exdrditied that should be revoked wel thanks for askin my opinion hope this helps

Now Everyone is Trying to Become a Bail Fugitive Recovery Agent

From Steven on 9/25/05

1. Do you know who Duane "Dog" Chapman is?
Yes

2. Have you watched his television show?
I have seen parts of his show one or two times ." Its to silly to watch"

3. What do you think of him? Why?
I have not seen enough of his show to comment although I do not see how his show could be a good thing for the industry.

4. How has it affected your opinion of the industry and a career in bail enforcement?
Watching Duane "Dog" Chapman's show has not had a impact on my opinion of this industry. I first became interested in becoming a Bail Fugitive Recovery Agent about ten years ago , my uncle was a BFRA for a few years , this was the first place that I had heard of this. As I have been researching this industry I have found that this new show is really making it harder for the serious people, it seems that every one is trying to become a BFRA.

The first Duane Chapman Survey reply

Received on 9/26/05 from Bob:

My name is Bob. I didn't fill out the info about my name til I got some response. Sorry. " Dog " The Bounty Hunter. TV makes everything look good. I have a car repossession background and find everyone asks me about the show on TLC. Way different. I am currently doing skip and repo work right now and I am not enjoying it cause I am not on my own!!!!!

As for your questions;

1. Do you know who Duane "Dog" Chapman is?
Yes

2. Have you watched his television show?
I watch it when The Ultimate Fighter is not on

3. What do you think of him? Why?
I think he should quit smoking for one. Other then that he is a guy who is trying to help people. Good to a point. But is it only on camera?

4. How has it affected your opinion of the industry and a career in bail enforcement?
I am from Canada, and we all know how difficult it is for us Canadians to do anything!!!!!!! I would love to be in the field and have nothing but respect for the people who do the job. A TV show would never make my mind up about a career. Never. Dog has done a wonderful thing and has made a fortune I am sure. Time to move over and let someone else in!!!
